The National University of Kaohsiung (NUK) was founded in 2000 to promote the balanced development of higher education in southern and northern Taiwan and to coordinate the government's industrial policy to the establishment of the Asia-Pacific Regional Operation Center. Therefore, NUK has superb geographical location and is very close to the Science, Industrial, and Software Parks and public transportation, such as Taiwan High Speed Rail, Taiwan Railway, Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) stations, and Kaohsiung International Airport. Surrounded by many important industry clusters, NUK has great geographical advantages in terms of research and academia industry development.
To become an academic excellence or world-class university, we have been addressing ourselves to the improvement of our teaching and learning quality. Innovation and integration are our focuses. The combination of theory and practice is the aim of our departments. We promote holistic education and design integrated programs. Upholding a free and open academic environment and noted for our teaching excellence, we expect ourselves to cultivate our students to be future professionals who have comprehensive vision as well as human and scientific literacy.
“NUK Go Green, Our Globe Get Clean” is our motto. To promote our faith in sustainability, NUK signed the Talloires Declaration in 2004 and became the first university in Taiwan that got into UI Green Metric World University Rankings. In 2009, NUK was elected by the Ministry of Education as the model school of Green University; in 2010, NUK was awarded by the Environmental Protection Administration, Executive Yuan as one of the green schools that had great contributions in environmental protection; in 2011, NUK was appointed by the Construction and Planning Agency, Ministry of the Interior as one of Taiwan's wetlands with national importance. The United Nation's goals, SDGs, have always been our drive. Since 2016, NUK has been developing the mechanism of our sustainability in accordance with SDGs belief. In 2019 and 2020, NUK was awarded with a gold medal in the TCSA (Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards) hosted by the Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy.
Positioning ourselves as a great university integrating education, research, and industry development, focusing on humanistic literacy and technological innovation, and being featured by the cultivation of elites and talents, we aim to become an unique university with an established global reputation.
