National Taiwan Normal University Division of Preparatory Programs for Overseas Chinese Students-formerly known as National University of Preparatory School for Overseas Chinese Students- is the only educational institution to offer overseas Chinese students preparatory courses for university in Taiwan.

In March 22, 2006, the National University of Preparatory School for Overseas Chinese Students merged with National Taiwan Normal University, and changed its name to [National Taiwan Normal University Division of Preparatory Programs for Overseas Chinese Students]. It maintains the function of National University of Preparatory School for Overseas Chinese Students, which assists students to to strengthen students’ Chinese ability and to complete their pre-university education , then to distribute them to ideal universities in Taiwan

The graduates of DPPOCS were distributed successfully to various public and private universities, and the admission rate of popular subjects is about 70~80% and above. After graduation from the universities, some choose to continue further studies and some return home to service overseas Chinese communities. Their outstanding performances give huge contribution.

Our curriculum:

  1. Chinese Language Class: Language Classes for students who want to learn Chinese language.After completing one year course, students can continue to preparatory classes.
  2. Preparatory Class/Autumn Class: All classes are designed for bridging domestic high schools and university curriculums. There are also bilingual classes for English-assisted teaching.

Registration Time: Every year from February to March 31th.

Chinese Language Class

1. Practical Audio-visual Chinese: Focuses on cultivating daily oral communication skills. Integrates daily life topics into Chinese grammar instruction. Students are taught basic pronunciation, listening skills and commonly used vocabulary to achieve language fluency.

2. Reading Chinese Books and Documents:Focuses on cultivating Chinese reading ability. Begins with short phrases in everyday books, newspapers and TV broadcasts to help students build their vocabulary. Progresses to literary understanding and appreciation so that reading in Chinese is no longer difficult.

3. Guide to Chinese Writing:Focuses on improving Chinese writing ability. Begins with writing of Chinese characters. Progresses to writing ability training and guidance so that students can write letters in Chinese and express their thoughts and feelings.

4. Chinese Culture:Introduces Taiwan's characteristics and Chinese culture such as Chinese calligraphy, food, religion and kung fu to provide an understanding of Chinese culture and customs. Helps students integrate into Chinese life and society from multiple dimensions.

5. English:Provides appropriate instruction according to students' English ability.

6. Mathematics:Provide appropriate instruction according to students' math ability.

7. Basic Social Studies:Includes disciplines such as history, geography and citizenship education. Introduces the basic concepts of various subjects, with focus on connecting common important technical terms with Chinese to provide students with sufficient language skills for prerequisite courses.

8. Basic Science:Includes disciplines such as physics, chemistry and biology. Introduces the basic concepts of various subjects, with focus on connecting common important technical terms with Chinese to provide students with sufficient language skills for prerequisite courses.

9. Sports:Increases students' sports skills through diversified sports courses so that they can enrich themselves and have more fun in life.

Preparatory Class/Autumn Class

The Preparatory Class must be taken for one school year. Its main goal is to help the students learn and familiarize with the Senior High School subjects which will also be used when they enter the university in Taiwan. The subjects taught are according to the divisions shown below:

The DPPOCS designed the preparatory classes into three divisions.

(1) Division1: For Literature and Arts, Law, Business, and Education

Subjects taught: Chinese Literature, English, Mathematics, History, Geography, Citizenship and Constitutionalism

(2) Division2: For Applied Science and Engineering.

Subjects taught: Chinese, English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry.

(3) Division3: For Medicine and agriculture.

Subjects taught: Chinese, English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology.
