About

National Penghu University of Science and Technology (NPU) was established in 1991 and is specialized in cultivating all kinds of talents and experts in the fields of fishing industry, tourism and leisure, marine recreation, technology, and management. Penghu and NPU has several unique features and is renowned for the following:

  • The Department of Marine Recreation is fostering instructors of marine sports for the marine recreation industry. The curriculum focuses on marine sports and recreation, sport and health management. The department provides courses in sailing, windsurfing, scuba diving, snorkeling, canoeing, surf lifesaving, motor boat, and water skiing.
  • The Department of Tourism and Leisure is fostering managerial and administrative personnel such as tour guides, and project/event planners with a focus on island tourism and marine recreation. The curriculum provides courses in tourism and leisure, sightseeing geography, practice of international etiquette, travel management, tourism law and policy, introduction to leisure planning, service management, agricultural tourism management, etc.
  • The Department of Electrical Engineering cultivates talents in specialized techniques of electrical engineering, electronics, computer, electric power, energy resources, and instrumental system design.  The department provides courses in power systems, instrumental electronics, electronic circuitry, electric machinery, etc. with a focus on the development and application of green energy.
  • The Department of Aquaculture covers two major fields of breeding and propagation of saltwater fish, shrimp, cowry, and algae plus sustainable use of marine ecological resources. The department provides courses in marine ecology, marine biodiversity, biology, analysis of water quality, introduction to ichthyology, aquatic botany, introduction to aquaculture, fish disease (aquarium pathology), as well as lab courses/practical training.
  • The Department of Food Science foster talents in food R&D, safety control, quality control, etc. The department provides courses in organic chemistry, food processing, food analysis, seafood processing, business and management of food factories, etc.

Scholarships

NPU Stipend: 

1. This living stipend is awarded for a maximum of ten months, and recipients of this award need to assist in teaching or research for a maximum of 30 hours in the Department in which recipients are studying. The amount of the stipend is awarded based on the class rank.

2.This stipend is awarded on the basis of student academic performance; this stipend will be awarded to the student who has a higher score of moral conduct in the case of identical academic performance.
